#4: UST to ADMU

by Ron Arceo

Last Saturday, I attended LMEX wherein students from UST’s AB Legal Management course were given a campus tour and mock classes in the Ateneo. I volunteered, together with some of my fellow LEX members, to entertain the students from UST. To be completely honest, I wasn’t the best volunteer since I failed to come on time and at one point started playing cards with my friends while the event was ongoing. Thankfully enoughthough the project managers, Kai Ibea, Kristel Descallar, and Steph Chua were cool about it.

The event took place in Faura but the first thing we did, after a brief introduction of LMEX, was to show the UST Legal Management students around the campus. It was quite reminiscent of what I experienced as a freshman during Orsem. After the campus tour, we returned to Faura and held mock classes for the UST students. There were three speakers: Robbie Reyes, Jose Ibarra, and Michelle Ching. The first speaker was Robbie Reyes, a theology teacher. He talked about the importance of teaching theology. The most striking thing about his lecture was how he acknowledged that theology wasn’t necessary to live, but we needed it to give meaning to our lives. The second speaker was Jose Ibarra; he teaches law to legal management majors. I found him to be quite a lively teacher and hope to be able to learn law under him. Afterhis lecture we all had lunch in Gonzaga. The third and final mock class was given by Michelle Ching, who gave a lecture about advertising. She compared it to courting a girl. As a freshman, I was able to learn much from all of the mock classes as all of my subjects right now are just core subjects. The speakers after the mock classes were Carlo Africa and Noel Lavarias, both of them third-year legal management majors. They talked about the curriculum of the legal management course in the Ateneo. Being a freshman, most of what they talked about was quite helpful to meand made me feel that I have made the right choice in choosing legal management. The event ended with team-building activities.

All in all, attending LMEX was a very fulfilling experience. The UST students were able to learn about the legal management course in the Ateneo, and I believe us LEX members also learned more about the same in UST as we talked casually with our visitors. The event was generally successful and is something that, in my opinion, should be continued in the following years.
