#1: The Golden Gruff Awards

It needn’t be sparkly or filled with glamour everywhere to make one big family feel at home. The LEX Golden Gruff Awards, or plainly the 1st GA, started off with so much energy last Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Leong Hall Roofdeck. Even if the wind almost struck down all that was there, it surely didn’t stop the entire program or the attendees from continuing on through the night. This is how we do it — the award is, in itself, each one of the people there.

The event opened with so much hype, especially with the promo for the early birds: first 50 attendees were given free Crave Burgers. (Yeah, FREE!) In addition to other promotions like GATSBY who gave away hair wax samples, the new batch of Ateneo LEX shirts and lanyards also kicked-off during the event. (Btw, for those who still want to buy one of their own, refer to the previous post.)

With Daniel Lumain and Farrah Supetran as hosts, the program began with showing different trailers featuring the EB and AVPs, including the Deputies and Directors. All upcoming projects were presented per department, featuring trailers for each of the projects for the attendees to get a grasp of what’s coming and brewing for LEX. A Q&A portion, co-hosted by Pat Arcellana also granted lucky members to receive prizes from Azta Salon.

There were a couple of GDs executed in between the talk segments. All of the attendees were divided into four groups, and each had to work on an assigned EB member. The idea of the first game was to dress-up the person similar to the character picked by the group. The winner was Jo Jimenez, who represented Shrek with all the green gooey face paint and recycled paper bag outfit. (See picture below!) The other three picked characters included Voldemort (Nel), Spiderman (Noel), and Stitch (Mel). It was really a laugh seeing everyone somehow working their roles out!

The night continued with the LEX Dance Crew strutting their new stuff. They definitely had moves like Jagger! We know good dancing when we see one. Then came next was the VESTIMENTA fashion show. Featuring LEX members as well, the ladies and gents walked the runway in their trendy outfits, and made way with striking their poses from one end to another of the stage.

Throughout the event, Cream-O crinkles and Coffee Twist bottled drinks were given out to the attendees. A second GD closed the show, and all those who were left were asked to participate to end the night with one last great bang.

Those who stayed until the end of the GA were given giveaways. Lanyards from Topshop/Topman were distributed, as well as delicious and scrumptious brownies from Banapple. Of course, the much awaited privilege cards were also handed out to everyone. Featuring 26 crazy deals with different establishments, you’d be missing out a lot if you weren’t able to get yours!

We hope you were able enjoy the Golden Gruff Awards. We would like to acknowledge the PMs under the HR dept: Kit Cruz, Avelene Castillo, and Joben Odulio for giving us an avenue for meeting and having fun with every member of the Ateneo LEX. Of course, all claps to our wonderful sponsors for being a great help with making our event a big success.

With all that, we thank you from the deepest hilt of our hearts! We can’t wait to see more of LEX and its growing potential through the upcoming projects and events.

Always FLEX FOR LEX!
